Flying Tiger

The first Flying Tiger store opened in Copenhagen in 1995. Since then, they have grown to almost 1,000 stores across Europe. When we were approached in December 2020, Flying Tiger only had e-commerce sites in Denmark and Sweden - most of their sales were still being generated through their bricks and mortar stores.

We were asked to design, build and launch a new e-commerce site that could serve multiple European countries.

We had just three months to work with from being appointed to launch, so our biggest challenge? Time. We would need to get to know the brand, and the team at Flying Tiger quickly, then start the build in a matter of weeks.

With the clock ticking, we followed our accelerated scoping and design process - rapidly forming a project team alongside the client. We’d meet every couple of days throughout to keep driving each element of the new site forward. We also quickly onboarded to their brand so that no time would be lost on designs that didn’t nail the Flying Tiger look and feel. It meant when we presented designs back to the team a couple of weeks later, they could quickly be approved.

At Flying Tiger, product rotation is very high; new products are launched roughly every two weeks. So we enlisted the expertise of Akeneo to help deliver a PIM that would collect, manage the information, create a product catalogue, and deliver first-class product experiences. We re-architected what was in place on the previous eCommerce site and put in place the long-term solution that is there now. And being mindful of their master plan, we made sure the new PIM is capable of being integrated with wider systems including Dynamics AX and Shopify Plus.

The site had to be able to roll out with relative ease to other countries, including multi-currency, multilingual, shipping and more. We opted for Klevu for search as it integrates seamlessly with Shopify, and its extensive feature set fits Flying Tiger’s needs perfectly, while providing headroom for further enhancements and customisations down the line. We also brought in our own content writers for the client – supporting their merchandising team with rich product content.

Within just three short months, we had designed the core EU site, began user acceptance testing (UAT), implemented the PIM solution and consulted on other integrations. Working so closely with the Flying Tiger team helped us flow smoothly from one task to the next and deliver a new Shopify Plus site in record time.
