Diligent was thrilled when our friends at Johnstons of Elgin invited us to attend their London Fashion Week presentation. Managing director Simon and marketing manager Laura went along to their spring/summer 2019 show to gain more insight into their upcoming collection.
Often, our first thoughts of knitwear are usually that of cosy textiles, of cuffs stretched over cold fingers and of polo necks pulled up to the chin, protecting the wearer from the harsh winter chill. However, Scottish knitwear brand Johnstons of Elgin used this years London Fashion Week not only to prove that this connotation is outdated, but that their knitwear can be worn all year round.
Set against the airy architecture of Waldorf Hilton’s Palm Court and inspired by the island of Ischia, the brand transformed the venue into a tropical paradise, complete with miniature indoor jungle. Models posed amongst the flora, wearing a variety of knitwear designs made using cutting-edge techniques. Extra fine merino, perfect for fresh spring mornings, stood alongside breezy tissue light cashmere, ideal for beating the summer heat. Citrusy brights, cool neutrals and hot pink featured heavily alongside geometric patterns and splashes of the classic Royal Stewart Tartan.
This sporty, relaxed and sophisticated collection not only proves that Johnstons of Elgin is master of textile innovation but a brand for all seasons.
